WARREN - Auctioneer Stanley J. Paine's optimism waned as the minutes ticked by the 11 a.m. starting time for the auction of 13 buildings and 105 acres that make up the majority of the former Wm. E. Wright Co. manufacturing complex bounded by South Street and the Quaboag River.
While local real estate agents and developers had stopped by to share a morning cup of coffee and observe the proceedings, Mr. Paine announced "last call" for registered bidders at 11:15 a.m. and, failing that, ended the morning proceedings in the empty and somewhat chilly offices of one of the buildings that had been advertised for sale.
