International Paper will permanently close its containerboard mill in the Albany area in mid-December, leaving 230 people out of work, the company announced Thursday.
The recession has hurt the company's containerboard bus iness, International Paper spokes woman Jessica Savage said. The decision to shut down the plant in Millersburg, near Albany, was part of a broader effort by International Paper, which is based in Memphis, Tenn., to match supply with diminished customer demand, she said.
