Area: Europe ranks sixth in size among the continents, with an area of about 4 million square miles.
Population: Europe is densely populated, with 738 million people. (This includes Russia, which lies partly in Europe and partly in Asia.)
Location: Europe and Asia share the same landmass, called Eurasia. However, most geographers measure Europe from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to a dividing line made up of the Ural River, the Ural Mountains, and the Caucasus Mountains. North to south, Europe stretches from the cold Arctic region in the north to warm, sunny beaches along the Mediterranean Sea.
