Salem High senior Lee Accomando plans to document native New England crabs and invasive Asian shore crabs as they vie for survival in a controlled environment sort of like reality TV drama meets science.
He can venture into the project thanks to a new, $100,000 aquaculture and hydroponics laboratory set to open at Salem High School that boasts an array of tanks and terrariums.
Fourteen juniors and seniors, including Accomando, are in a new science research internship class aimed at using the lab for experiments they can share with other schools and beyond.
