Unemployment in Birmingham is higher than in any other major English city, writes PAUL DALE.
At 12.6 per cent, the number of people claiming Jobseekers allowance stands at 50,602 - more than double the UK average.
By contrast, Leeds has 7.3 per cent of its adult population out of work.
In Newcastle in the North-east the figure is 8.3 per cent, in Nottingham it is 11.2 per cent and in Manchester it is 11.7 per cent.
Bristol weighs in at 6.2 per cent and Sheffield 7.2 per cent.
Only Liverpool comes close to Birmingham, at 12.5 per ...
