After a robust year, used-vehicle prices in September retreated from the previous month's levels. But the trend-breaking softness reflects typical seasonal adjustments and some cash-for-clunker hangover, not an ongoing trend, say used-vehicle price experts.
According to data compiled by ADESA Analytical Services, the average price of used vehicles sold at auction last month was $9,742. That is 2 percent less than the average in August but 2 percent higher than the average price in September 2008.
