Vegans aren't so serious - just ask comedian Myq (pronounced "Mike") Kaplan, one of the featured speakers this weekend at the 14th annual Boston Vegetarian Food Festival.

"I've been a vegan for seven years, as long as I've been a comedian," said Kaplan, a former Boston University student who often works his lifestyle into his act. "I got heckled once when I said I was a vegetarian. The guy said, `I eat vegetarians.' I said, `Eat me.' "

The heckling stopped.

This year's festival, free to the public, extends over two days (Saturday and Sunday) for the first time in its history.
