For those wondering what the future of engine-powered equipment will look like in the Tier 4 era, the answer seems to be: a lot like the present. At least that's how it appears in the case of two of the Tier 4 concept installations undertaken by the Industrial Machine Integration Team at Cummins in Columbus, Ind.
Among the 10 types of machines the company selected for the integration of Tier 4 technology were a wheel loader and an air compressor, both originally Tier 3 machines sourced from global OEMs. Each has been operated extensively in the Columbus area, with the wheel loader being used at the Nugent Sand Co. quarry operation in southeast Columbus.
