VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Oct. 30, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMERIGROUP Corporation today announced that net income for the third quarter of 2009 was $22.5 million, or $0.43 per diluted share, versus $37.9 million, or $0.71 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2008. Third quarter earnings are in line with the preliminary earnings range that the Company issued on October 26, 2009, and reflect elevated medical costs associated with the onset of what appears to be a severe flu season due to the H1N1 virus.
Highlights include:
