Grade-crossing safety is one of the fundamentals of our industry. Railroads arc waging a never-ending battle to ensure the safety of motorists who cross our tracks every day. Operation Lifesaver is a very important ally in this campaign.
I'm among the first to say it's up to each individual to take responsibility for getting across a railroad crossing safely. The train has the right-of-way according to both the laws of man and the laws of physics. Since the train can't stop or swerve, it's up to motorists to keep their vehicles out of the path of the train.
I'm no longer amazed by the number of people who can't or won't understand this simple principle. ...
