SIGNS of economic resurgence around the world have lifted UK consumer confidence to its highest level since we went into recession.
A European Commission index of optimism produced by GfK NOP leaped to its highest level since January 2008.
The 1,999 individuals polled judge this the best time to make a 'major purchase' since November 2007.
The mood of confidence was supported by evidence that America's recession is finally over.
The US expanded 0.9pc in the third quarter of the year, triggering gains on Wall Street and a 57.30 point rally to 5,137.72 by the FTSE 100 Index.
