A South Korean state energy research institute said Wednesday that it has succeeded in developing the core component of a fuel cell that generates electricity from a fuel tank. The Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) said it has succeeded in the test production of a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for the first time in South Korea.
Only two companies in the world -- 3M Co. and DuPont Co. -- own the mass production technology for the MEAs, the KIER said.
