Domtar Paper Co. broke ground Tuesday morning for the construction of a 45-megawatt bio-fueled steam turbine generator at its Marlboro Mill in Bennettsville.
The $40 million investment from Domtar will make the 20-year-old mill more self-reliant for its energy. It is expected to generate 95 percent of the mill s energy needs, or 51 megawatts of electricity, and cut annual energy costs by an estimated $14 million.
This is an investment in this facility to remain globally competitive in this industry, Domtar s CEO John Williams said.
