The city of Wilmington is receiving a low- or-no-interest loan from the federal government to undertake a project that will use solar energy to power the municipal complex on Wilmington Avenue.

The Department of the Treasury this week announced a nationwide total of $2.2 billion in Clean Renewable Energy Bonds, which provide lower cost financing for green projects. The awards included $2.7 million for the city, the only recipient of the low-cost financing in Delaware.

There were 805 recipients nationwide, including government agencies, public power providers and electric cooperatives.
