New Globe publisher
Boston Globe Publisher P. Steven Ainsley announced yesterday he is retiring Jan. 1, ending a 27-year association with The New York Times Co.
Mr. Ainsley, 57, will be succeeded by Christopher M. Mayer, senior vice president of circulation and operations at The Boston Globe.
Mr. Mayer, 47, will also head the New England Media Group, which includes the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester.
Mr. Ainsley, who served as Globe publisher for three years, announced his retirement in a memorandum sent to employees.
