The arrival of summer is good news for ice cream sales. The world's best ice cream, as anyone who's travelled a bit knows, is Italian. I cannot prove this, but I know it to be absolutely true. Every lick from Naples to Parma, Rome to Milan, San Gimigniano to Venice confirms that compared with other ice creams, Italian sorbetti and gelati are celestial.
There are two reasons for this. One is produzione propria: much Italian icecream is properly handmade from milk, eggs and sugar.
