Two years ago, I fled the Channel O Music Awards in horror. They were held at the Joburg City Hall, which has no airconditioning, and it took more than two hours for guests to register. There was nowhere to sit and then we waited and waited until the show finally happened. There was also nothing to drink or eat.
The guests were so blinged out in sunglasses and shiny clothing that I felt like I was tripping on LSD and everyone was P Diddy from Nigeria. The sound was awful and, in fact, the only thing that stopped me from ripping my eyes out was KB, the VJ.
Finally, at around 10pm I realised that hell, thy name be the Channel ...
