BLACKROCK Hospital Group has reported profit before tax of E13.7m in 2008 - a decrease of E1.3m on the previous year.

The company owns the biggest private hospital in the country, the Blackrock Clinic, in south Dublin.

The 9pc decline is, the group said in accounts filed, due to reduced margins, together with higher depreciation and finance charges associated with the hospital's five-year E100m expansion and refurbishment programme, which began last year. Turnover remained largely unchanged: E87.9m compared to E86.9m the previous year.
