Taos is preparing to kick off "The Big Read" Saturday, Nov. 7 with food, music and free copies of "Bless Me, Ultima."

The Taos Public Library and local nonprofit SOMOS teamed up to make the month-long event a reality. The group was among 269 nonprofit organizations in 44 states to receive funding from the National Endowment for the Arts; Taos received $7,500 to use for buying books and hosting events that will be free to the public.

Taosenos will be reading "Bless Me, Ultima," by Albuquerque author Rudolfo Anaya. The book is a coming-of-age tale set in New Mexico, ...
