Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), one of the largest fuel retailers, has reported a loss of Rs. 159 crore for the second quarter of the current financial year, which is nearly 94 per cent lower than the Rs. 2,625-crore loss in the corresponding period last year. During the quarter under review, the company s total income also declined to Rs. 27,513 crore, vis-a-vis Rs. 38,149 crore in the year-ago period.

The company has attributed the humungous losses to the under-recoveries it is saddled with. BPCL, which owns around a quarter of the market share in retailing, said under-recoveries for the quarter stood at Rs. 2,236 crore. The ...
