JUDY LEDEN MBE has flown more strange contraptions than the entire cast of Thunderbirds.

She has taken a hangglider to the fringes of space, and holds four world aviation records.

Today, though, she is struggling -- in vain -- to get six inches off the Tarmac in Formby, Merseyside.

But even Judy admits that it would be a tall order in this aircraft. And she has nothing but admiration for the eccentric pioneer who actually managed to get this thing airborne 100 years ago, becoming the first Brit to fly a British plane.
