VIRGINIA BEACH - Welton Gregory Barnes, 87, of Atlantic Shores, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 30, 2009. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Amelia Carter and Samuel Travis Barnes.
Welton was predeceased by his sister, Earline; brother, Carter; his first wife, Juanita Riddick Barnes; and his second wife, Barbara Hudson Barnes.
Following his schooling in Norfolk, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. After the war, he began work as a general engineer in the design division of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired in 1973.
