AS of today, I officially hand over the reins of editorship of The Mercury to Angela Quintal, who has been head of our political bureau and, more lately, an executive editor on The Star. A highly talented journalist, Angela originally was based in KwaZulu-Natal and she will, I am sure, quickly settle in. Over the next three months, I will be here to assist her.
If you will permit me a little space for reflection, I admit to having some mixed feelings (pride and concern) about the global state of the media industry.
Concern because the media often does not have the resources needed to completely fulfil its vital watchdog ...
