TRANSPORT Secretary Lord Adonis is to appeal to Conservatives and Liberal Democrats to develop a joint policy on high speed rail in advance of next year's general election.
He said plans for a new high speed rail line between London and Birmingham should not be threatened by the "hurly burly" of party politics.
Lord Adonis warned that the first stage of a high speed line could take 15 years to complete, making it likely different governments would be in power during the long construction period.
