A former Republican governor and U.S. Senator (Dan Evans), a former three-term senator (Slade Gorton) and former six term congressman (Sid Morrison) head a list of Republicans opposing Tim Eyman's Initiative 1033.
The No-on-I-1033 list, released Wednesday by Mainstream Republicans of Washington, underscores a sharp division of GOP opinion first evidenced when the state voted on a gas tax hike four years ago.
The Republican State Central Committee was an early, enthusiastic supporter of I-1033, which would impose a sharp, across-the-board formula on spending increases by state, county and local government.
