It was back in February 2007 that this lucky 7DAYS hack was dispatched to Abu Dhabi for a 'special announcement' and the grand plan to showcase F1 on a man-made island in the capital was unveiled.
On that day we were wowed as a selection of the world's best drivers roared around a specially constructed doughring. It was spectacular, and the announcement that followed, where the UAE was awarded a place on the F1 calendar, was even better. Especially when it was agreed that the race would be added for the 2009 season. From scratch.
