Allos Therapeutics Inc., of Westminster, Colo., initiated a Phase I/II trial of RSR13 (efaproxiral) for patients with locally advanced cancer of the cervix receiving chemoradiation. RSR13, the first of a new pharmaceutical class of radiation sensitizer agents, is an investigational synthetic allosteric modifier of hemoglobin. The trial is an open-label, multicenter study of RSR13 administered to patients receiving a course of weekly cisplatin with a combination of external beam and intracavitary radiation therapy.
