Advanced Tissue Sciences Inc., of La Jolla, Calif., received FDA approval to begin a pivotal trial investigating the use of its core technology, a human fibroblast-derived dermal substitute, as a substitute for a soft-tissue graft during periodontal surgery. The technology already has been approved for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers under the name Dermagraft.
