Access Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Dallas, began the final Phase III study of OraDisc A, a mucoadhesive disc containing amlexanox for the treatment of canker sores. The study is expected to finish in the fourth quarter. OraDisc is a polymer disc technology that adheres to the disease site and slowly degrades, releasing the drug. The Phase III study will enroll 700 patients at 28 sites in the U.S. Separately, Access said it acquired from GlaxoSmithKline plc, of London, the patents and trademarks for amlexanox relating to the treatment of mucosal and skin disorders.
