The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $5 million to Ball State University to help pay for the replacement of its coal-fired boilers with geothermal heat pumps.
BSU President Jo Ann Gora thanked U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar, who has assisted the university on the project from the beginning, and other members of the Indiana Congressional delegation.
"He directed us to the researchers who helped design our large system, participated in the ground breaking and dug the first ceremonial bore hole," Gora was quoted as saying in a news release.
