Misinformation and misconceptions have run rampant in Northfield with regard to the transition to AtlantiCare for emergency medical services.
First, the Northfield Rescue Squad Inc. began paying its members in 2008 and ceased being a purely volunteer service. When it began billing insurance companies and paying employee wages while receiving aid from the city, it became a contractor for the city. As such, it became subject to state bidding statutes that require the city to put the contract out for bid.
