ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Robert Burns Swain, 73, died Oct. 30, 2009 at Providence Extended Care Center in Anchorage. Mr. Swain, known as Bob to his friends, Bobby to his family, was born Jan. 30, 1936 in Norfolk to Mack R. and Marjorie A (Quidley) Swain.
Bob brought his family to Alaska as a member of the Air Force Military Police in 1971, retiring from military service to Anchorage in 1976 after serving his country for 20 years. Bob went on to serve as executive director for the Association for Retarded Citizens of Anchorage (ARCA) from 1977-1979 and was program director for the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center from 1979-2000.
