THE Pietermaritzburg High Court last week via default judgment, ruled that a Phoenix man who defamed a pastor, was liable for damages totalling R80 000.
Rajesh 'Alvin' Brijlal of Ottopalm Road, Palmview, was ordered by Judge King Ndlovu, to pay Pastor Tyrone Pretorius, of Methven Road, Westville, R80 000 in instalments. In terms of the court order, Brijlal must pay R5 000 by the first of next month and thereafter the same amount by the seventh of every month.
In terms of the order, Brijlal must deposit the money into the trust account of Pretorius's attorney Mervyn Gounden.
Brijlal was sued for R500 000 by Pretorius.
