(DCR) has reaffirmed the 'AA-' (Double-A-Minus) claims paying ability ratings of National Life Insurance Company of Vermont (NLV) and its two-thirds-owned subsidiary, Life Insurance Company of the Southwest (LSW). The ratings, in the very high category, rely on the companies' strong capitalization and excellent asset quality. The ratings also reflect progress made in diversifying product lines and reducing expenses to improve profitability.
