Kazakhstan to reduce coal production 10.6% in 2009; electricity - 1.6%

ALMATY. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan plans to produce 93 million tonnes of coal in 2009, 11 million tonnes or 10.6% less than in 2008, Energy and Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Duisenbai Turganov said at the Power Kazakhstan forum in Almaty on Tuesday.

Coal exports will fall to 19 million tonnes from 27 million tonnes in 2008.

The coal industry is centered in Pavlodar region in northern Kazakhstan and Karaganda region in central Kazakhstan.
