** AIM index: Associated Industries of Massachusetts, a group representing manufacturers, said an October survey shows employers are continuing to show greater confidence in the economy.
** Tech partners: Dampening speculation of a merger, tech heavyweights Cisco Systems Inc. and EMC Corp. formed a joint venture called Acadia to build products that combine Cisco's networking gear and EMC's storage computers. VMware Inc. will provide virtualization software and Intel Corp. will chip in the microprocessors.
