Several Northland communities have received a total of $805,000 in grants to help demolish and remove commercial buildings, publicly owned structures, and to clean up contaminated areas. The sites then will be available for new developments.

Iron Range Resources announced the Commercial Community Redevelopment grants on Friday. Introduced in fiscal year 2008, the program s goal is to remove commercial blight and slums, improve neighborhoods and main streets with new construction, development or a new business.
