ALBANY -- Witnesses called by the prosecution in the federal trial of former state Sen. Joseph L. Bruno laid out the origins of his late-blooming career as a business consultant -- a pursuit that flourished after he became majority leader in 1995.
Assistant U.S. attorneys Elizabeth C. Coombe and William C. Pericak used testimony from their first three witnesses, augmented by numerous documents, to retrace how Bruno in the early 1990s obtained agreements with three firms in deals that were never disclosed to the public.
