CANBERRA, Nov 5 Asia Pulse - Senior Australian public servant David Borthwick has been appointed to lead an inquiry into a major oil spill off the Western Australian coast.
The oil began leaking on August 21 in the Montara field near the West Atlas oil rig, more than 200km northwest of WA's Kimberley coastline, and was only plugged on Tuesday afternoon.
Resources Minister Martin Ferguson made the announcement in Canberra on Thursday.
Mr Borthwick, recently retired as the secretary of the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, was a high respected public servant and community leader, he said.
