SPENCER - About 120 to 150 grade-school children are showing up at dances at the Knights of Columbus hall on West Main Street, not far from Route 9.
The Friday night dances, designed for young people in Grades 4-8 from any area town, are held twice a month from 7 to 10 p.m., according to John E. Collette of Spencer, K of C grand knight.
These youth dances were commonplace throughout the area years ago, but now are held infrequently, except in Spencer.
"We're the only ones in the area," he said.
