A STUDY into crime-fighting strategies commissioned by provincial police has been slated by the Department of Community Safety as "stating the obvious".
The study says that poverty, alcohol and drugs are among the contributing factors to the province's high crime rate and that addressing socio-economic issues is part of the 48-point plan to take forward the fight against crime.
Community Safety official Zelda Holtzman slammed the research which led to the collaborative plan, saying that it brought nothing new and failed to identify the causes of crime.
