4 November 2009 - Finnish insurer Sampo Oyj (HEL: SAMAS) said today its pretax profit fell to EUR192m in the third quarter of 2009, slightly undershooting the market consensus for EUR201m.

In July-September 2009, the company posted a pretax profit of EUR242m.

Sampo's property and casualty (P&C) insurance unit had a pretax profit of EUR167m in the reported period, down from EUR213m a year earlier. Analysts, polled by SME Direkt, had on average forecast the result at EUR176m.
