"Left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) Tei indexes were assessed consecutively from birth to day 28 in all VLBW infants using pulsed-Doppler echocardiography. The mean values of the LV Tei index rose rapidly from 3 to 12 h after birth and then fell significantly after 24 h.
