Article: Data on melanoma described by T. Shekhel et al.

"Malignant melanoma as a cause of inflammatory metastasis to the skin is a rare phenomenon referred to as in-transit metastasis (ITM). We report an unusual case of a patient who developed left leg lesions resembling lymphangiectasis," investigators in the United States report (see also Melanoma).

"Punch biopsy results revealed atypical cells consistent with melanoma. The patient had a history of high-risk melanoma involving the left side of the lower extremity. This case highlights the need for a high index of suspicion for ITM in patients with a history of melanoma," wrote T. Shekhel and colleagues.
