According to recent research from the United States, "Welsh & Hodgson (2008) argued that stream-associated amphibians (Ascaphus truei, Dicamptodon tenebrosus and Rhyacotriton variegatus) are reliable indicators of ecosystem health in the Pacific Northwest (PNW), U.S.A.
