(NYSE: RNR) reported operating income available to common shareholders of $242.2 million for the third quarter of 2009, compared to an operating loss attributable to common shareholders of $143.4 million in the third quarter of 2008. Operating income (loss) excludes net realized gains on investments and net other-than-temporary impairments of $16.8 million and $0.3 million, respectively, in the third quarter of 2009, and $11.2 million and $98.8 million, respectively, in the third quarter of 2008.
