MALAYSIA earned RM9.27 billion trade surplus in September, making it the 143rd consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997.

Total trade value for the month was RM85.21 billion, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in the monthly external trade statistics report released today.

Exports in September worth RM47.24 billion, down 1.1 per cent from August, mainly due to the decline in crude petroleum, electrical and electronic (E&E) products, iron and steel products, jewellery, textile and clothing exports.

Imports fell 0.7 per cent to RM37.97 billion from August. it said.
