Warren Buffett's investment firm Berkshire Hathaway has announced it plans to purchase the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad for $44 billion. (The Associated Press File Photo) Berkshire Hathaway, the company owned by billionaire investor Warren Buffett, announced yesterday it would be acquiring the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. railway.
The $44-billion purchase, which will also see Berkshire Hathaway assume the Fort Worth, Texas-based Burlington Northern's $10-billion debt, is the largest deal ever negotiated by Buffett's company. The price tag, which works out to $100 per share, will buy Berkshire Hathaway the 77.4 % of the ...
