The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative will be able to accelerate its plans to expand its so-called "smart grid" technologies thanks to a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy announced last week.
The grant, which NOVEC will match with $5 million of its own, is part of $3.4 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars that will be allocated to 100 utilities around the country.
