Sep. 11--The U.S. Department of Justice has sued a Pennsylvania doctor who operates a chain of cancer clinics, including several in the Tampa Bay area, accusing him of bilking two government health care programs out of more than $12-million.
The focus of the lawsuit is Dr. Douglas Colkitt, a cancer specialist in State College, Pa., who controls a complex network of health care and medical billing entities centered on a company called EquiMed Inc. Nearly 80 companies or clinics affiliated with Colkitt were named in the government's suit, including Oncology Services Corporation of Tampa Inc. and Tampa Oncology Associates P.A.
